Favorite App This Week

Although my progress is phenomenally slow, I’m still running and still working on the C25K program. I’ve talked before about several different apps that I’ve used – C25K Free, beaTunes and Road ID. This past week I stumbled across Spring, a music app for working out.

Using what seems like an endless library of music, you get to choose the beats per minute (bpm) which correlates to the number of steps you’re taking per minute, and the type of exercise you’re going to be performing (running, biking, rowing, swimming, etc.). There is even an option for interval running – you can set different bpms and time lengths for walking and running (note: you can only choose one time for walking and one time for running per interval workout). During initial set-up you get to choose the genres of music that you want to hear, then narrow down the artists, as well. It also tracks your route, your time working out, your distance and calories burned.

Several weeks ago I hit a running plateau. Although I was able to complete Week 3, I could NOT get through a single day of Week 4. In fact, my efforts began to deteriorate – I was accomplishing less each time. I went back to Week 3 and some days even that was too difficult. I used Spring for the first time on Wednesday. I paired 160 bpm with C25K Week 4. It was the best I’d ever done on the Week 4 program, and I LOVED every song that came on! I used Spring, again, this morning with the Week 4 program. I haven’t been able to complete all the intervals of Week 4, yet, but I did even better than on Wednesday. Woohoo!

Remember the posts about Asheville, NC? (here, here, here) Although we had the BEST time exploring Asheville and enjoying the area, our true purpose for the trip was to witness the wedding of our dear friends Javi and Cait. The wedding was beautiful – everything was perfect. The grounds of Claxton Farm were stunning, the bride was gorgeous, everything about the evening reflected the bride and groom, their styles and their love. I cannot say enough about their day. Javi was Tall Guy’s Best Man at our wedding, and Javi honored Tall Guy by asking him to return the favor.

At our wedding, Javi toasted us with a heartfelt, hysterical toast. It involved props. It was amazing. Months before Javi and Cait’s wedding, Tall Guy was already thinking about his toast-to-be. It was very important to him that it be just as special as the words Javi shared with us. Tall Guy needn’t have worried. Not only did he come up with a speech full of love and laughter, his delivery was impeccable.

This past week, the professional photographer’s photos made their debut. All of the images are exquisite, but this picture of Tall Guy toasting Javi is… perfect. I am in love with this photo. It says everything.

Favorite Song This Week

Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I’m a sucker for a girl singing about taking back her life and fighting for what she wants. It’s my inner teenager.

I love fight song! It definitely gives me that little energy boost I need…so does bad blood haha. Good job on the c25k! I have completely stopped working on mine–it’s too hot to be motivated. Haha

The heat is killing my running motivation. And progress. Luckily, both Friday and this morning I snuck my runs in between thunderstorms – the cool air helps, but the strong winds pushing AGAINST me, not so much. Oh – and Fight Song? I found a one-hour loop of it on YouTube and listened to it while I was creating most of my Friday post. It was kind-of great.
