Although last weekend was a three day-er, it felt incredibly short. While I got lots of things done, it didn’t actually feel productive. But, since I was being productive, it also didn’t feel relaxing. This weekend I’m aiming for maximum relaxation. In the meantime, I’m hanging out with my favorite Friday link-ups: Oh, Hey Friday, High Five for Friday, and Friday Favorites (add’l links below)!
Favorite Quote This Week
Favorite Video This Week
It’s that time again! Be one of the first to lay your eyes on the newest episode of Bourbon & Bordeaux! If you checked out Episode 3 – Back to School Fashion 2015 (and if you haven’t, you should), you may remember that we kept talking about this one particular item… a non-fashion item.
Episode 4 is what happened when we couldn’t get Zima out of our heads.
Favorite Response to Stupidity This Week
Okay, let’s talk about this for a minute. In case you missed it, a chick named Nicole Arbour created a YouTube video called “Dear Fat People.” I will not link directly to her video because it’s nothing more than a six-minute verbal vomit of fat-shaming. She claims to be a comedian. Actually, that claim is funny, because she’s NOT funny. She (post-video) claimed that the video was satire. Satire involves the use of humor to ridicule stupidity or vices. For her video to have been satire would require the condition of being fat to be stupid. A large portion of my labor day was spent fuming over Arbour’s video. In my head I listed everything wrong with her claims and started mentally drafting a blog post. But I couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to give her any more attention. (Yes, this paragraph is technically still attention, but stick with me…)
After watching her YouTube atrocity, I then watched several YouTube responses. Whitney Thore responded with a smile, choosing to focus on education of the matter rather than calling out Arbour on her hate (Whitney Thore might be a saint). Boogie2988 responded emotionally. It turns out he had actually considered Arbour a friend until he watched this particular video. His disappointment is evident. However, my favorite response was by Shawn Halpin. He used humor, called Arbour on her shit and delivered some well placed jabs that, frankly, I think she deserved.
Full disclosure, if you watch his video, it does include Arbour’s video, as well. It’s not fun watching her, but it’s the way he responds to each bit of her monologue that makes his video so great. Spot on.
So, while the thing that spurred Halpin’s video is not, at all, funny. His response IS.
Favorite Idea This Week
Here’s where I pull one of those Blogger cliches.
I came up with a great idea this week for a new endeavor. I’m super-excited to get started on it and have already sent out some feelers to get things moving. BUT, just in case things change, I’m not going to talk about this new project in any specifics. What I will do is tell you that the general idea has been bouncing around in my head for years. Then, between The Daily Tay introducing nebrowse and some great work on Bourbon & Bordeaux, suddenly the details to get the project running just showed up in my brain.
Keep your eyes peeled, I’ll let you know as things progress. (The best way to keep your eyes peeled? Follow me on Bloglovin’ so that you never miss a post!)
