Reality, mystery meat and Poison – Friday Link-Ups

I’m exceptionally excited that today is Friday and the weekend is HERE! A big factor could be knowing I don’t have to run on Saturday or Sunday. Hooray for rest days! Before I totally slip into relaxation/worthless mode, I’m checking in with my favorite Friday link-ups: Oh, Hey Friday, High Five for FridayFriday Favorites and Oh Hot Damn, This is My Jam (add’l links below)!

Favorite Food This Week

Mystery Meat! No, bear with me. Tall Guy recently went on a week-long bachelor event in Key West. Prior to leaving, he picked up an obscene amount of meats (pork, steak, chicken, sausage, fish, ribs) from our favorite local meat market. He returned with an unbelievably large amount of leftovers. However, each meat item was wrapped to save space, and nothing was labeled. Everything went into our freezers but, with just a little frost on the wrapping, its hard to identify what everything is. Twice this week I’ve moved a package from freezer to fridge, for thawing, but not known what it was until thawing was complete. It’s a fun little game.

Favorite Bill We Haven’t Paid in Two Years

On Monday, the garbage collectors did not empty our garbage can, although they did empty our neighbors’ cans. It seemed like perhaps this had happened before, because we hadn’t received a bill from our garbage company. In fact, we’ve NEVER received a bill, or any kind of communication, from the garbage company. Called the company and spoke with Jacquelyn. Jacquelyn found our account and said that it had been closed since early 2013. I told her that we had never closed the account. She said it had been closed due to non-payment. When I mentioned that we’d had regular pickup until this last week, she suggested I call the other two companies that serve our neighborhood. After making those calls, I dialed up Jacquelyn again. Despite our non-payment, that was the company that had been picking up our garbage. Jacquelyn said, “let’s see… 2013? Yeah, that could definitely happen. It’s possible they just didn’t notice until this week that your account was closed.” Huh. Well, we’ve reactivated our account, but essentially got about two years of free garbage and recycling pick-up. SCORE!!!

Favorite Song This Week

Poison  by Bell Biv Devoe. It’s a classic, but one of those classics you don’t get to hear nearly as often as you should. Just rediscovered that it’s the last song on Carli’s C25k Week 1 Original Podcast. Quite possibly the best thing to come out of C25K, so far.

Even worse – our neighborhood frowns upon leaving out garbage cans in plain view on non-pick-up days, so we usually keep the can in the garage. Not so much this past week. It was way too gross. Also – still waiting for today’s pick-up…

Is it sad that I had no idea you had to pay for garbage pick-up in some places? You learn something new everyday!

Most places in Florida bundle trash fees with the water bill. However, we live in an “unincorporated” section of our city, so we have to use a private trash company. Yes. It’s ridiculous.
