Halloween costumes over the years

So, Halloween.

Halloween is my jam.

Yesterday, Michael Kors tweeted a theory on why everyone loves Halloween, and he nailed it.

And I do LOVE Halloween. Love it so much that this year we’re celebrating 10 years of my Annual Halloween Bash! Not quite as many celebrities as Heidi’s Halloween party, but I’m working on it.

As usual, despite my obsession for the holiday and the fact that I look forward to this event ALL YEAR LONG, I have zero preparations in place for this year. Standard. In previous years I’ve posted about the struggle to find fresh and unique Halloween costumes, as well as shared some of the awesome creations that have shown up at the bash from year to year.

This season, instead of my usual pre-Halloween post discussing my complete lack of new ideas, I’m going to share photos of previous Halloween costumes for Throwback Thursday. And some of these go waaaaay back.

Cat and Pig Halloween 1987Pig and Cat (I’m the cat) – circa 3rd grade

Peter Pan and 50s Waitress Halloween 1988Peter Pan and Gum-Popping 50s Waitress (me) – circa 4th grade

Sorority Girl Angel Halloween 2000Angel and Sorority Girl (me) – Senior year of college
(it’s okay that I did that, because I was one)

Facts of Life Blaire Halloween 2002Blair from The Facts of Life – first year post-college

Flamingo Peacock Halloween 2006Flamingo (me) and Peacock – first completely handmade – from my imagination – costume, and first Halloween in Florida

Queen Bee Halloween 2011“Queen Bee” with my little Hammy Worker Bee – mine is an original, his is store-bought

Dying to hear what you’ll be dressing up as this Halloween, and still accepting suggestions for my own costume! Fill up my comments section with your creativity, friends!

Lol, I love these costumes. I’ve never dressed up for Halloween, I need to change that!

Thanks, Candace. You absolutely should dress up! You get to be someone else for a night and try out a whole new persona, but without the commitment of changing your whole life around 🙂

I love that you were a white cat instead of the standard black cat – random I know. I’ve been a black cat like 12 times because I’m so un-original. I loved seeing some of your costumes! My favorite DIY costume (when I was actually creative) was a corona bottle, complete with a lime hat. Wish I had some inspiration for this year (as I work on another black cat costume). If you want some details on the corona bottle I’d be happy to share!
